2013 WG PINOT NOIR
Sanford and Benedict, the original Pinot Noir Vineyard of Santa Barbara County, is one of the most sought after sources for young Californian winemakers yearning to make world-class Pinot Noir. Through Rajat Parr’s ongoing relationship with the vineyard, John was able to secure one of the most beautiful blocks on the property.
The relatively light crop, warm vintage, and early ripening of 2013 combined for intense yet bright and energetic wines
AT THE WINERY:
John applied the same intuitive, largely hands off approach that he practices with his other projects to let the nuance of the vineyard shine. No sulfur until after completion of malolactic conversion, native fermentation, no additives etc.
Pure, bright red fruit jumps out of the glass. In the mouth the wine is firmly framed by young, yet already integrated tannin. Flowing light on its feet as a Pinot Noir should, the seductive red fleshliness is rich enough to leave a lasting spray of fruit through the finish. Firm in its youth, the Pinot Noir already shows its vineyard pedigree and calculated hands-off crafting
